Bevel Gears: The Core Component for Intersecting Shaft Power Transmission
2026-01-29
Bevel gears, also known as conical gears, are gears whose teeth are formed on a conical surface. Their primary function is to transmit power and rotational motion smoothly between two intersecting shafts (most commonly at a 90-degree right angle, but other angles are possible). Unlike common parallel shaft transmission using cylindrical gears, bevel gears change the direction of power transmission through the meshing of two conical tooth surfaces. This characteristic makes them indispensable in many fields. For instance, in an automobile rear axle differential system, a set of bevel gears converts the longitudinal rotation from the drive shaft into the transverse rotation of the axle shafts, thereby driving the wheels. Furthermore, bevel gears play a key role in machine tools, marine propellers, heavy machinery, and various industrial equipment requiring directional changes in transmission. Their design and manufacturing quality directly impact the smoothness, efficiency, and service life of the transmission.
