Key Parameters: Module and Pressure Angle

Two of the most critical parameters in gear design are the module and the pressure angle. The module is a fundamental measure of tooth size, directly defining the gear's physical dimensions and strength. It standardizes gear sizing, ensuring proper meshing between gears with the same module. The pressure angle is the angle between the line of action (direction of force transmission) and a line tangent to the pitch circles. Common pressure angles are 20° and 14.5°. A larger pressure angle, such as 20°, typically provides greater tooth strength and load capacity but may increase bearing loads. These parameters, along with others like the number of teeth and face width, are meticulously calculated to balance strength, wear resistance, efficiency, and size requirements for the intended application.
